A good play to go is the Symantec (Norton) Response Centre. Use the Search facility to check for keywords in pop-ups that have appeared on your screen or email warning messages from friends.
You can also view useful information from McAfee

Remember if you propagate a hoax by sending it to your friends the author of the hoax has achieved his or her goal, and, as in some cases, you may have deleted a file or files which are vital to your windows system.

The other result is that you may have generated a certain amount of unwarranted concern amongst the recipients of your hoax emails.
